We purchased Glen and his mum Bridie from Pat Garrill, a breeder from Lincolnshire, who wanted to retire after many years breeding a successful line of Miniature Shetlands.
Glen and his mum are very well bred. Castle Unwin (Bridie’s father and Glen’s grandfather) is now a stud stallion in China. Glens father is now a stud stallion in Austria.
Shetlands are measured in inches, not hands like other horses and
ponies. The Shetland Pony Stud-Book Society set the upper height limit for Shetlands at 42 inches by the time they are 4 years old. “Miniature” Shetlands are 34 inches or under, and “standard” Shetlands higher than 34 inches, but no higher than 42 inches.
Glens mum is 34” high and his dad is only 31”. They are both Miniature Shetlands. I wonder how high Glen will grow?
