Loch Laggan

The ideal gift for animal lovers!

Did You Know?

All the female Shire horses bred at Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre are named after Scottish Lochs.

Laggans mother, Tilly, was a Clydesdale and Edward (her father) was a Shire, so Laggan has been registered as a Grade B Shire.

In 2016 as a foal she was Supreme Champion Foal at the biggest shire foal show in the country.

She has grown into a large powerful mare, like her mother.

Her older brother, Ben Alder, has had a great show career. As a foal he was Supreme National Champion foal and he has been twice National Champion Gelding. As a 2 year old and a 4 year old.

Laggan shares his genes and she is producing some special foals with Leonardo.

In 2019 she had a super colt foal, Ben Lawers, and in 2020 she had a huge, perfectly marked colt foal, Alistair’s What’s Wanted (Big Al) who became the 2023 National Junior Champion Gelding and in 2024 was the Supreme National Champion Gelding.

In 2022 she had another fabulous colt, Fleet, who was Champion Foal THREE times.

We were delighted in 2023 when she produced, at last, a filly foal – and what a cracker! Like her brother she was Champion Foal at the Royal Cheshire Show.

Lagans foal in 2024 is again a superb quality colt foal who has a great future in the show ring – like his brothers and sister.

Laggan is back in foal to Leonardo and is due on 4th March 2025.

Loch Laggan is a loch in Lochaber, east of Fort William and was featured in the BBC series Monarch of the Glen.
